Physiotherapy

Pelvic floor physiotherapists are Registered Physiotherapists who are specially trained to assess the musculature and soft tissues within the pelvis. In addition to assessing the pelvic floor tissues a comprehensive orthopedic evaluation is completed. Our therapists use a biopsychosocial framework when assessing and treating patients to help determine all potential drivers of their complaints.

Psychotherapy

Natasha graduated with a Masters of Social Work with a specialization in Children and Families from the University of Toronto in 2011. Prior to this, she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in Sociology from Ryerson University in 2008. She is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and is Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

While Natasha does have a great deal of knowledge within the field of addictions, she has found her passion in working with couples and individuals struggling with issues around sex and sexuality. Natasha completed a Certificate in Sex Therapy from the University of Guelph in 2014.

Natasha has worked in downtown Toronto for several years providing couples counselling and sex therapy to couples and individuals alike. Such issues include erectile dysfunction, painful intercourse, gender identity, navigating through changes in sexual appetite, sexual dissatisfaction, overcoming infidelity and rebuilding trust, managing expectations and improving communication around sex.

Natasha’s approach to therapy is integrative and patient-focused. She draws from various therapeutic modalities as they best apply to her patients and works to create a non-judgmental environment where patients can feel safe to share their feelings, emotions and concerns. Working in conjunction with other allied health professionals at Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre, Natasha formulates well-rounded treatment plans that address patients physical and emotional needs. Lauren is a Co-Founder of Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre. She graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 2008. Prior to this, she completed a Bachelor of Science, Honours degree at Queen’s University.   While Lauren has experience in orthopaedics and sports medicine, she has spent the majority of her career treating patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. Lauren completed her initial training in New York City and has done further training both in Canada and abroad. In order to maintain her evidence-based practice, Lauren attends international meetings held by the International Pelvic Pain Society, the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health and attends the World Congress on Abdominal and Pelvic Pain. Lauren is also a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, it’s Women’s Health Division and Pain Science Division. Lauren has also taken numerous courses in chronic pain. Lauren is also an Assistant Instructor with Pelvic Health Solutions.   Lauren enjoys treating patients with persistent pelvic pain and urogenital dysfunction. Nelly Faghani is a Co-Founder of Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy. Nelly graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 1996.

Nelly began treating pelvic health issues in 1998 and continues to be actively involved in clinical practice, mentoring and teaching. She has helped develop continence programs that have been implemented in various long-term care facilities through Ontario. She has spoken at numerous grand rounds, symposiums and conferences, including The Urology Update, Canadian Ambulatory Care Conference, Ontario Physiotherapy Association Interaction Conference, Southlake Hospital OBGYN Clinical day, Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist Annual Conference SOGC, Mount Sinai Mature Women’s Day and at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Nelly has been a spokesperson for the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, has co-authored a neuro-urology textbook chapter on incontinence and has hosted a round table at the International Pelvic Pain Society Conference. She is a member of the ICS Children and Young Adult’s Committee and the ICS Physiotherapy Committee. She regularly attends international conferences and prides herself on staying on top of the current pelvic health literature.

Sarah holds a Master’s of Physiotherapy with Merit from Robert Gordon University, Scotland, and a Bachelor’s of Science with Honours from the University of Western Ontario.

Sarah became passionate about pelvic health physiotherapy after working in a health & fitness setting with women who were pregnant or post-partum. She has since dedicated her continued training and professional development to the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, including pelvic pain, urogenital dysfunction, paediatric pelvic floor dysfunction, and lactation-induced inflammation of the breast (mastitis or blocked ducts).

Sarah is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and it’s Women’s Health and Pain Science Divisions, as well the International Urogynecological Association and the International Pelvic Pain Society. Sarah is a Lab Assistant with Pelvic Health Solutions and a volunteer lab facilitator with the University of Toronto’s Department of Physical Therapy.

Jessica is a co-founder of Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre Toronto. She has practiced as a member of the College of Physiotherapists since 2008.

Jessica has found her passion in treating pelvic floor dysfunction. With her orthopaedic skills and pelvic health training, she is committed to treating both men and women who suffer from pelvic pain, urogenital dysfunction, ano-rectal dysfunction, as well as pre- and post-partum issues. Her approach to treatment is to help others re-learn how to live well, stay well and be well through persistence, patience and perseverance.

Jessica graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 2008. She graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology Honours degree from the University of Western Ontario in 2006. She is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and its Women’s Health division, the International Continence Society, and the International Pelvic Pain Society. She is an Assistant Instructor at Pelvic Health Solutions, which provides continuing education courses on pelvic health physiotherapy to various practitioners. She has also provided several physiotherapy mentorships and has been a facilitator in clinical labs for medical students addressing treatments for mechanical lower back pain.

Jessica has presented at a number of conferences, including the Men’s Health Summit and the Ehlers Danlos & Chronic Pain Conference. Jessica is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Masters of Physiotherapy. In addition to being a co-founder and licenced physiotherapy practitioner, Jessica has also successfully completed the Women’s Health Coach Certificate Program through The Integrative Women’s Health Institute. Jessica is constantly educating herself on the latest in health research and clinical education and integrates her new learning and techniques into her practice. In addition to pelvic physiotherapy treatment, Jessica provides coaching on various aspects of individual health. While science has changed the healthcare landscape, diseases have changed as well. Preventable chronic diseases (most of which are lifestyle-derived) have become more common. Health coaches are able to mentor, motivate, inspire and empower individuals to overcome various health challenges. Jessica’s overall objective is to assist individuals in achieving their health goals through sustainable changes in their lifestyle and daily routines. Beth obtained her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Western University, followed by her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto. Beth developed a special interest in pelvic health during her schooling, and began her training with Pelvic Health Solutions immediately after graduating. She is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and its Women’s Health Division. Beth treats both men and women for a variety pelvic health conditions, including: incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis, and vaginismus/dyspareunia. She has experience treating several patient populations such as prenatal, post partum, post menopausal, post-prostatectomy, and persistent pelvic pain. Her approach focuses on manual therapy, exercise prescription, and patient education to enable her clients to take control of their health. Tara is a registered acupuncturist (R.Ac) in the province of Ontario. She also holds (BA) in Psychology from Concordia University, with a specialization in Behavioural Neuroscience. Tara was fascinated with Chinese Medicine and complete a five year degree at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM). Since graduating in 2006, Tara has been diligently perfecting her craft while raising a family in different provinces throughout Canada. In 2006, Tara spent a year worked at ALIVE Holistic Health. Followed by a move to Montreal in 2008, where she worked in private practice along with continuing studies at the Collège-de-Rosemont. In 2011, Tara moved to Calgary with her family, where she attended the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (CCTCMA), and worked in the student clinic for 3 years. While in Calgary, Tara also became a certified Birth Doula through the DONA international program. In 2017, Tara returned to Ontario and rejoined the team at ALIVE Holistic Health, where her focus has been on improving fertility and reproductive health for men and women.

Her area of specialty has focuses on all things related to women’s health. From menstrual issues (PCOS, endometriosis), fertility, pregnancy, miscarriage and menopause. During this time, Tara worked for two and a half years at the Integrative Cancer Care Center (ICC) at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) where she had the privilege of supporting cancer patients through their journeys of treatment, recovery and pain relief.

Tina is a graduate of the Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic and a member of the Ontario Massage Therapist Association. She is also a certified practitioner and Level 1 Teacher of The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®.

Tina’s treatment approach encompasses Swedish massage, indirect techniques (Cranial and lymphatic), myofascial release, among others. Kamand is an experienced orthopaedic and pelvic health physiotherapist. Through her own experiences she has come to appreciate the value of pelvic health. Specifically when dealing with menstrual cramping, pain with intercourse, constipation and more recently pregnancy, childbirth and post partum recovery.

Kamand graduated with her Kinesiology degree from York University in 2007. After working as a Kinesiologist for several years, she later graduated from Queen’s University with a Masters degree in Physiotherapy in 2012. She is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and its Women’s Health Division. Her thirst for learning and passion to provide the right care for her clients is what drives her to pursue continuing education courses in pelvic health and orthopaedics.

Kamand uses an integrated, patient specific approach to treatment. She strives to hear each of her clients’ stories to identify how to best assist them to achieve their goals. Her treatments involve education, hands-on manual therapy, acupuncture, and targeted active exercise programs to successfully treat pelvic related conditions.
